Kane Community Opera

About Us
We are in the early stages of getting Kane Community Opera (KCO) off the ground.  The Board of Directors listed on the right have been doing the initial work of incorporating the group, achieving non-profit status and planning for our first production, Gilbert and Sullivan's "Pirates of Penzance" .We are eagerly looking for like-minded volunteers to help as board members to lead KCO.

There will be an informational meeting for interested people who would like to know more about serving on the KCO Board of Directors.  The meeting will be held on October 15, 2008 at 7pm - 8pm in Batavia, IL.

Steve Hanson, President & Music Director
A 1982 graduate of Roosevelt University in Piano Performance, Steve was conductor of the DuPage Community band at the College of DuPage from 1982 to 1992 and director of the chapel choir for the Unitarian Universalist Society of Geneva from 1992 to 1996 and has served as pianist there from 1988 to the present.  Steve was a member of the Board and Music Director for Rising Star Theatreworks, Geneva, IL from 2004 to 2007, also conducting pit orchestras for seven of their shows.  In December, 2007, he led the first performance of the Kane Community Opera Orchestra for State Street Dance Studio's production of "The Nutcracker" by Tchaikovsky at the Norris Cultural Arts Center, St. Charles, IL.

Linda Cunningham, Vice President - Production
Linda is the Founder and Artistic Director of State Street Dance Studio in Geneva, IL.  She began dancing at the age of three.  Her training includes Zaki Labovsky, Chicago's Ruth Page Center, DuPage Ballet Guild and The Arizona Dance Company.   Linda started teaching at age 14, choreographing her first full length musical at age 16 and now has been teaching for over 25 years.  State Street Dance Studio presents the annual Stars of Dance Chicago at the Paramount Theatre, Aurora, IL, along with performaing at the Athenaeum Theatre in Chicago.  Linda has performed on local television programs, appeared on ABC Channel 7 morning shows, WGN Around Town and on the nationally/internationally syndicated Total Living Network.

Joyce Keane, Vice President - Planning
Joyce Keane lives in Batavia, IL.  She has an MBA from Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management.  Her 25+ year professional career has been in managerial positions seling business software to Fortune 1000 companies to help them gain efficiencies and productivity in their organizations.  Joyce has been on the board of several non-profit organizations, providing marketing, fund-raising and financial management expertise.  Most recently Joyce served as the Treasurer, VP-Planning and Business Director of Rising Star Theatreworks, a start-up non-profit children's theatre group.  For them, she developed and performed their business management and fundraising activities, including obtaining grants and gaining publicity for their productions.

Becky Groth, Secretary
Becky lives in St. Charles, IL.  She is a 1990 graduate of Indiana University and although her degree is in education, performing arts has always been a love.  She has written and directed several skits performed by and for youth around the country.  She served on the writing team for Restoration Players at Assembly of God Christian Center (St. Charles, IL) from 2000 - 2002.  In 2003 she co-founded FullCast theater Compay in Batavia, IL, a summer drama camp for youth.  She has also assisted and directed with a youth theatre group in Geneva, IL.
